the announcement

Over the past couple of summers, Richard and I have been so lucky as to have the opportunity to see large chunks of the nation. While on the road we often find ourselves saying things like, “don’t you just feel like a better person out here?” Well this summer we drove all around Glacier National Park and were constantly thinking things of that nature and on those long drives in big sky country we finally decided it was time to do something about this nagging feeling we had that life could (and should) be more than mortgages and 9-5. We could wait until we are old and retired. But we are choosing to make this dream come true now before we have children in school and are shuffling them between soccer practice and violin lessons.

We are planning to sell everything we own that doesn’t fit in an RV and hit the road within the next year. We are currently in the process of selecting the perfect fifth wheel for our family and will then park it at the creeks and live in it until next May when Richard graduates law school and we can start our journey on wheels. We figured we might as well buy it now and start saving money on rent (because we will need it for fuel).

I know, you didn’t think we could get any weirder, right? Watch us. For those loved ones (ahem Andy) that are concerned that we will end up homeless, don’t worry we do actually have plans for employment. I’ll let Richard talk about his virtual law plans in his own words at a later date and I will be continuing my contract grant writing work. Plus Moby is going to join the traveling circus.

If you want to follow our crazy life this is the place to do it. We are planning on making announcements and updates through this blog and our new facebook page. Although I have never been a very successful ‘tweeter,’ I think this will come in very handy when we are on the road so  follow me on twitter for a steady stream of updates.

Tune in or tune us out, your choice. And as a little teaser, here is a photo from the RV we have our hearts set on.

yes that’s a kitchen on the outside

We are taking requests now for which cities to visit as we plan out our road map so let us know if we need to head your way! One of the outcomes of going to such a unique college as Sewanee is having friends all over the world; we can’t wait to finally visit all of you (at least the ones in North America)!

  1. There is some program, though it may be for seniors :) that allows you to stay/park at national parks in exchange gofer service at their gift shops etc. may want to check it out.

  2. I love it already! After just making a 1000+mile move, I can understand the downsizing part! I wish you the best of luck on that front and can’t wait to hear about your adventures…..!
